Zed is a fighter/assassin, malz is a mage/assassin. pick your poison, ap or ad, both do similar things, but in different ways. malz can destroy a tank/cc machine in team fights, or protect an adc. zed can instagib the enemy apc/adc relatively safely. malz has a bit more utility, zed has a bit more damage and escape.. I've been playing some zed lately, since he's free and having a good time. mostly i'm either tied against my opponent mid laner or winning. but last game i was against a malzahar and man did he make a pancake out of me. he didn't kill me but he zoned and harassed me really hard..
